Hello,
My name is Jean and I have been passionate about local and family history for many years. This interest was passed on from my parents, who have written and published several local history books. Over the years I have researched my own, my husband's and many friends' family histories, with some very interesting finds. All of the information gathered was stored on my computer. I began to wonder how to organise all this information, to make it easy to read and enjoyable to look at; not just a mass of papers with dates and names. I wanted it to be attractive and something I could pass on to my children. So I created 4 Family Tree Books; one for each of my grandparents and their ancestors. Each direct ancestor was given their own page and a shared page with their partner. These pages were then filled with all the interesting information I had found about them ( details of baptism, marriage, children, occupations, death, etc.),my own memories and tales told to me by family members. Finally I illustrated the books with photos of my ancestors and places associated with them. Copies of resources used were then added to the book, e.g. census reports, parish records, newspaper articles and of course a Family Tree Chart. Each ancestor was given a reference number, enabling cross referencing of all pages and documents; family trees can be confusing, especially with the repeat of names through the generations.
I was very happy with the result and so decided to make some for family and friends as special gifts. I received such positive reactions from them that I decided to set up this little business and offer to make them for other people. Jeanealogy was the natural choice when giving my business a name!!
